Revival Acoustics RG-26M Reviewed
One of Revival Acoustics most popular guitars is the all solid mahogany wood RG-26M an OM/OO size/shaped acoustic guitar.
If you appreciate the quick response of mahogany, and desire plenty of volume and added punch to go along with it’s unique sound; the RG-26M guitar may be just the ticket for you!
As a dealer for Revival Acoustics, I had heard good things about this particular model, one of my incentives for stocking this particular guitar was it has a very reasonable price tag (especially for an all solid wood guitar) and after making numerous attempts to buy this model from my supplier (because they continued to sell out of them so quickly) I finally got my hands on two RG-26M’s and began to A/B them! Now I’ll admit that I’m a little biased here in that I do tend to like the sound that mahogany/guitars make; having said that, playing this guitar (for me) is a satisfying experience, the quick response, and the bluesy rich woody tone! I do think It is also important to note that the size/shape of the instrument matters here as well and there is a big difference between playing a dreadnought size/body guitar and wrapping ones arms around an OM body that has thinner sides; for one thing it just feels different! (kinda like holding a baby) The OM body is versatile enough for flat-picking and finger style approach’s alike! This guitar obviously does not have the power and depth of a dreadnought, but it can produce more than enough sound to satisfy most people and it has uniqueness that is all it’s own, this is the working mans or womans guitar!
There’s Something about the way she Woo’s me, this guitar is simple, no nonsense and straight forward, in that it’s uniform (basically all the same material/wood goes into building it). Simplicity has a beauty all it’s own and though mahogany may not be exquisite like Koa wood it’s distinct and rich in color, style and tonality! Both of the tops on the guitars I received had a considerable amount of what I will call character; which I felt made them unique/pleasing in there own right; despite being green, right out of the box both of these hogs perform well and whenever I am reluctant to put a guitar down , that’s a very good sign indeed to me, and not only that, but when I continue to pick an instrument up to play with it again and again over time!
There is nothing really fancy here folks, this model does show off a nice abalone rosette (which I think appears like a jeweled necklace) and looks great against the dark mahogany wood! The Revival name is inscribed in abalone on the headstock! Other than that, the finish is all satin/matte and gives this guitar a real nice natural feel/and overall rustic appearance! I also believe that a satin finish helps this guitar breath out sound better than a gloss/poly coat would and it just fits really well with this model (gloss just don't go good on a hog) !
The specification’s of the RG-26M are the same as the RG-26 guitar, with the only exceptions being the hog top, the satin finish and the headstock; which has Revival inscribed on it in abalone vs. the tree of life Revival logo done in pearl. The Revival RG-26M is a very affordable acoustic guitar providing a lot of sound for the money, if your looking for an all solid wood mahogany OM style acoustic guitar; you will be hard pressed to do better!
